Emerald 270L Heat Pump Install in Forestville — Replacing an Old Rheem
— Northern Beaches Hot Water
We replaced a failing Rheem heat pump with an Emerald 270L All-In-One Pro in Forestville. Two Northern Beaches businesses — one local installer, one local manufacturer.
This week we were in Forestville replacing a Rheem heat pump that had reached the end of the road. The homeowner wanted to stick with a heat pump — they'd seen the running cost savings firsthand — but they wanted something more reliable than what they had.
We installed an Emerald 270L All-In-One Pro. It's a fully integrated heat pump hot water system: tank and compressor in one unit, R290 natural refrigerant, DC inverter technology, and WiFi app control. The 270L tank suits a 3–5 person household comfortably.
Why Emerald?
Emerald Energy is headquartered in Frenchs Forest — about 5 minutes from this Forestville job site and 10 minutes from our base. They design and manufacture heat pump hot water systems built for Australian conditions.
That local connection matters. When we install an Emerald system, we're dealing directly with the manufacturer. If there's ever a warranty question or a part needed, we're talking to people down the road — not an interstate call centre. Two Northern Beaches businesses working together means the shortest support chain you'll find.
The Install
The old Rheem unit came out and the Emerald went in on the same footprint. The All-In-One design makes installation straightforward — there's no separate outdoor compressor to mount, no refrigerant lines to run between units. One unit, one location, connected to the existing plumbing.
We connected the new copper pipework, ran the electrical, and had the system heating water within a couple of hours. The unit sits neatly against the side wall with good clearance for airflow around the compressor at the top.
R290 Natural Refrigerant — Future-Proof
One of the reasons we recommended the Emerald is their use of R290 natural refrigerant across the entire range. R290 has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of just 3, compared to 675 for R134a and 2,088 for R410A. As synthetic refrigerants get phased down over the coming decade, systems using R290 won't be affected.
For the homeowner, that means no future refrigerant availability issues and no surprise costs from refrigerant changeovers. The system installed today will still be using readily available, environmentally sound refrigerant in 15 years.
What the Emerald 270L All-In-One Pro Offers
