This week we were in Forestville replacing a Rheem heat pump that had reached the end of the road. The homeowner wanted to stick with a heat pump — they'd seen the running cost savings firsthand — but they wanted something more reliable than what they had.
We installed an Emerald 270L All-In-One Pro. It's a fully integrated heat pump hot water system: tank and compressor in one unit, R290 natural refrigerant, DC inverter technology, and WiFi app control. The 270L tank suits a 3–5 person household comfortably.

Why Emerald?

The Install
The old Rheem unit came out and the Emerald went in on the same footprint. The All-In-One design makes installation straightforward — there's no separate outdoor compressor to mount, no refrigerant lines to run between units. One unit, one location, connected to the existing plumbing.
We connected the new copper pipework, ran the electrical, and had the system heating water within a couple of hours. The unit sits neatly against the side wall with good clearance for airflow around the compressor at the top.
R290 Natural Refrigerant
R290 is propane, a natural refrigerant with low global warming potential. For comparison, the Australian Government’s published HFC table gives R134a a GWP of 1,430 and R32 a GWP of 675 on its stated assessment basis. Refrigerant type alone does not establish efficiency, service life or whole-of-life emissions.
Natural refrigerants are outside the HFC phase-down, but that does not guarantee future parts availability, repair cost or a 15-year service life. Appropriate equipment selection and qualified servicing still matter.
