Rinnai Infinity Gas Continuous Flow Installation in Manly
— Northern Beaches Hot Water
A Manly homeowner’s old continuous flow system had reached the end of the road. We swapped it out for a new Rinnai Infinity — better efficiency, quieter operation, and a 12-year heat exchanger warranty.
This Manly homeowner’s existing continuous flow system had been playing up for months — slow to ignite, inconsistent water temperature, and an error code that kept flashing on the display. After 12 years of service, it was time for a new unit.
Since they were happy with continuous flow (no tank, endless hot water, compact), they wanted a like-for-like replacement with the best unit available. We recommended the Rinnai Infinity.
Why the Rinnai Infinity?
The Rinnai Infinity is Australia’s most popular continuous flow system, and for good reason. The unit we installed delivers 26 litres per minute at a 25°C temperature rise — comfortably enough for a shower and a tap running at the same time. For this household of three, it’s more than they’ll ever need.
- 6-star energy rating — among the most efficient gas hot water systems available
- No pilot light — electronic ignition means zero gas consumption on standby
- Endless hot water — you’ll never run out mid-shower
- Compact wall-mounted unit — same footprint as the old system, clean swap
Compared to the older unit it replaced, the new Infinity runs quieter, ignites faster, and has a much better energy rating. Technology improves — even within the same product category, a 12-year-old unit can’t match a current-model system for efficiency.
Warranty Coverage
Rinnai backs the heat exchanger with a 12-year warranty as standard. With their extended warranty program (regular scheduled servicing), that coverage extends up to 25 years. All our installations come with a labour-backed warranty for the life of the manufacturer warranty — so if anything goes wrong with the workmanship, we cover it.
The Installation
A like-for-like continuous flow swap is one of the cleanest jobs we do. The gas connection, water lines, and flue position are all in the same spot. We disconnected the old unit, mounted the new Infinity in its place, connected everything with clean copper pipework, and had hot water running within a few hours.
The homeowner didn’t need any additional plumbing modifications — just a straight swap with an upgraded unit.
Running Costs
A modern 6-star continuous flow system like the Rinnai Infinity costs roughly $820/year to run for a 3–4 person household, based on today’s gas prices. That’s the most efficient gas option available — roughly $180 less per year than a gas storage system would cost.
Worth Considering: Going Electric Next Time?
It’s worth mentioning: a heat pump hot water system runs at roughly $480/year (based on peak electricity rates with no solar input) — less than half the cost of any gas option. If your hot water is the only reason you’re connected to gas, switching to a heat pump could save you $600+ per year once you eliminate the gas connection fee entirely. With energy prices continuing to rise, that gap only grows.
This homeowner chose to stay with gas for now, but we walked them through the heat pump numbers so they know what’s available when this system eventually reaches end of life.
